The Telemark Canal was etched in the mountains over 100 years ago. When the canal was completed in 1892 the rest of Europe called it “the eighth wonder of the world”. Five hundred men had worked for five years, blasting their way through the mountains. With a total of 28 locks, a sailing route of 105 km and an elevation difference of 72 meters, the canal was cleared from Skien to the ancient Norwegian town of Dalen.

Day 1: Oslo - Skien
Depart Oslo by bus in the morning to Skien. Visit Telemark open-air Museum with buildings illustrating town and country culture in Telemark. Overnight at Ibsen Hotel or similar.
Day 2: Telemark Canal
After breakfast embark on a relaxing cruise on the Telemark Canal, taking you from Skien to Dalen. Enjoy the gentle journey across beautiful lakes, through locks with their old stonewalls, through narrow canal passageways and past small houses with typical canal architecture. Evening arrival for overnight at the historic Dalen Hotel.
Day 3: Dalen - Oslo
After breakfast take the bus from Dalen to Oslo where the itinerary ends.
