Day 1: Copenhagen – Odense – Kolding
Depart Copenhagen in the morning. Drive across the impressive new Storebælt Bridge via the island of Funen to Odense. Enjoy a guided visit to H.C. Andersen’s House, a museum built in the restored home where the fairytale-writer was born. Lunch on your own before continuing to Egeskov Castle, found in a romantic setting on oak pillars in a lake. Tour the interior of the castle before traveling through Svendborg and Tåsinge. See Troense, one of the best-preserved Danish villages with a row of half-timbered houses and the Valdemar Castle from 1633. Drive along the south coast of Fyn to Fåborg past some of Denmark’s large Manor Houses and stately homes. Leave Funen island behind and cross the bridge to the mainland peninsula of Jutland. Dinner and overnight in Kolding at the Radisson SAS Koldingfjord Hotel.
Day 2: Kolding – Jelling – Silkeborg – Århus
Travel to Jelling with the famous burial mounds. At Jelling church see two stones with Runic inscriptions placed there by the Viking kings Gorm the Old and Harald Blue Tooth. Continue to picturesque Silkeborg located in the heart of Denmark's lake-district. Ascend Denmark's highest hill, (483 feet) Himmelbjerget, (Sky Mountain). Stop at a typical Danish Inn for a traditional lunch of “Smorrebrod” - open-faced sandwiches - before continuing to Århus, Denmark’s second-largest city. Enjoy a guided tour this afternoon of Den Gamle By (Old Town), an open-air museum with a collection 61 homes, cobblestone streets and gardens, shops and markets. Overnight in Århus at the Radisson SAS Århus Hotel.
Day 3: Århus - Copenhagen
Travel along the east coast of Jutland to Djursland and the picturesque coastal town of Ebeltoft, a fairytale town with the tiniest City Hall and quaint old houses lining the streets. Visit the City Hall before returning to Århus on a delighful 2.5 hour ferry cruise across the Kattegat sea to Kalundborg. Visit "Vor Frue Kirke" (Church of Our Lady) with its 5 towers, built in 1170. Visit Roskilde, Sealand's second largest town, and the spiritual centerof Northern Europe in the Middle Ages. 38 Danish Kings are buried in Roskilde Cathedral. Return to Copenhagen where the tour ends.
