Highlights from "In a Nutshell"
From Oslo the train travels through the Hallingdal valley, gradually climbing along the river to Nesbyen, Ål and Gol, until you reach Geilo, a popular ski resort. The train continues climbing over the Hardangervidda, one of Norway's many beautiful mountain plateaus, reaching Finse, at about 4,000 feet, the highest point on the line. From Finse, you begin the longest high-mountain stretch of railway in Europe. The train travels through snow tunnels down towards Myrdal. In Myrdal you change trains and continue the tour on the Flåm Line train for a 12-mile, 50 minute thrilling ride down the steep mountainside towards Flåm. The train stops at Kjofossen waterfall, where you can get off the train for a photo opportunity.

The Flåm Line train has five seperate braking systems, and travels through about 20 tunnels, past waterfalls and steep cliffs, before reaching Flåm and the Aurlandsfjorden. In Flåm, embark on a beautiful 2-hour cruise to Gudvangen. Cruise up the Aurlandsfjord and the stunning Nærøyfjord. This branch of the Sognefjord is the narrowest fjord in Norway. After your boat docks in Gudvangen, you will bus up the steep hairpin bends and turns to Stalheim, for a fantastic view of the mountain and valley below. The drive ends at the trains station in Voss wehre you will rejoin the train line for Bergen or Oslo.
