Trip to the Reindeer Glacier

The Ice Sheet, a prominent feature covering 80% of Greenland's surface, is a captivating attraction that undergoes annual reduction due to melting exceeding replenishment. Our destination, aptly named Reindeer Glacier, boasts towering ice walls, reaching up to 60 meters in some areas, creating a striking contrast between land and ice.

Named after frequent reindeer sightings, Reindeer Glacier is a world-class spectacle, even without the presence of animals. It offers numerous photo-worthy moments, capturing the pristine and immaculate beauty of nature. To reach this remarkable glacier, we utilize a tundra coach, a robust 4WD vehicle designed for rocky, variable terrain and gravel roads. Along the journey, keep a keen eye out for local wildlife, including reindeer and musk oxen, while our guide shares the history and stories of the area.

During the warm summer months, the colossal ice walls may experience thinning and instability, with the potential for sudden calving and breaking. Safety is paramount, necessitating a respectful distance from these ice giants. After approximately 90 minutes of driving, we arrive at the magnificent Reindeer Glacier. Here, you can walk alongside the glacier edge, capturing the scenery from various angles or simply reveling in the grandeur and silence, occasionally interrupted by the melodic sound of melting ice water.

The designated area offers about twenty benches with tables and basic but practical mobile toilets. Following a suitable duration in front of the mesmerizing glacier, we leave the unique nature untouched, magnificent, and etched into memory.

Hi Susie, The 8 day tour that you arranged for us last summer, Baltic Capitals with Klaipeda has us hoping to plan a similar trip to the Baltics and beyond in the upcoming months. It was an excellent tour, both in terms of the logistics and of the things we saw. All of the local guides were excellent and we really enjoyed exploring these mysterious cities. The churches were beautiful (loved the view from St. Peter's Church) and we particularly enjoyed the way each city sparkled at night. Experiencing the night life in Europe was so exciting. Thank you again for all of your help with this Baltic tour! Mallory Sharp
